This is the west, not the east.

Immigrants often run the church as if they were still in the East. One benefit cited by immigrants is that keeping the perspective, culture, traditions, and values of the east fosters an ideal enviornment for attracting and developing new immigrants to the church. Is it really though?

A college graduate comments; "I went to the cantonese service and I feel like I don't fit in. The irony is that i grew up in Hong Kong. The chinese they use is so old that the people living in Hong Kong today wouldn't even understand their words."

Often, the Asia immigrants (that have been living in America for a while) remember is very different than the Asia of today. (The confucian values have become less evident in society.)

So what is an ideal approach to solving this "problem" so that Asian ethnic churches can better attract, develop, and retain new immigrants?

1.) Ask, why are we doing it this way? Is it because the bible says so, or is it based on culture?
2.) Create opportunties for new immigrants to work with existing leadership.
